Mozilla have released the latest and greatest version of their web browser, Firefox, and as you might expect the surge of traffic has slowed their site to a grinding halt. I hear they’re going for a Guinness world record for the most downloads of a piece of software over a single day – why not help them out?

If you can’t get onto the official webpage then don’t panic – there are other places where you can find it. FileHippo was nice and fast for me.

Mozilla Firefox 3.0What’s new in Firefox 3, then? The user interface has been tweaked a bit, and folks with a lot of bookmarks will probably appreciate the ability to add tags to each item for easier browsing. A so-called “Awesome Bar” will help you to find related webpages when you type a URL into the address bar, as well as offering one-click buttons for adding a page to your bookmarks or subscribing to RSS feeds that Firefox finds at that location. The download manager has also been improved to allow proper pause / resume functionality and now has a search box to help locate files you’ve downloaded in the past.

Some folks may like to hold back on installing a piece of software that’s been released just hours ago – but since it’s gone through six months of beta testing, I don’t reckon there all that much to go wrong, and will be instantly making the upgrade :)

Happy browsing!
