Firefox 3 released
Posted under Utilities
Mozilla have released the latest and greatest version of their web browser, Firefox, and as you might expect the surge of traffic has slowed their site to a grinding halt. I hear they’re going for a Guinness world record for the most downloads of a piece of software over a single day – why not help them out?
If you can’t get onto the official webpage then don’t panic – there are other places where you can find it. FileHippo was nice and fast for me.
What’s new in Firefox 3, then? The user interface has been tweaked a bit, and folks with a lot of bookmarks will probably appreciate the ability to add tags to each item for easier browsing. A so-called “Awesome Bar” will help you to find related webpages when you type a URL into the address bar, as well as offering one-click buttons for adding a page to your bookmarks or subscribing to RSS feeds that Firefox finds at that location. The download manager has also been improved to allow proper pause / resume functionality and now has a search box to help locate files you’ve downloaded in the past.
Some folks may like to hold back on installing a piece of software that’s been released just hours ago – but since it’s gone through six months of beta testing, I don’t reckon there all that much to go wrong, and will be instantly making the upgrade
Happy browsing!
