…because Retro Remakes have just announced that there’s going to be an official RR 2008 Competition later this year! Excellent news, as there’s always a healthy list of entries, and the prizes are sure to be an incentive (though personally I don’t care about that as I wouldn’t know how to use half of them!). This year I might even have a go myself – damned if I know what with, but there’s still plenty of time to get the old thinking cap in place.

The first work-in-progress beta of Millenipede 1.2 will be going out to a select few testers either tomorrow or Friday. Recent progress over the past few days has been very good – I was going to post another teaser screenshot tonight but sadly I’m a bit short on time, so tomorrow will have to do instead.

Elsewhere, Flagship Studios announced via their homepage for Mythos that they were still operating, but they confirmed that there have indeed been job losses. Also, WordPress released version 2.6 yesterday – I’ve been looking forward to that after hearing it has Google Gears support (faster admin access, hurrah!). Anything that makes life easier is fine by me :)

Mozilla have released the latest and greatest version of their web browser, Firefox, and as you might expect the surge of traffic has slowed their site to a grinding halt. I hear they’re going for a Guinness world record for the most downloads of a piece of software over a single day – why not help them out?

If you can’t get onto the official webpage then don’t panic – there are other places where you can find it. FileHippo was nice and fast for me.

Mozilla Firefox 3.0What’s new in Firefox 3, then? The user interface has been tweaked a bit, and folks with a lot of bookmarks will probably appreciate the ability to add tags to each item for easier browsing. A so-called “Awesome Bar” will help you to find related webpages when you type a URL into the address bar, as well as offering one-click buttons for adding a page to your bookmarks or subscribing to RSS feeds that Firefox finds at that location. The download manager has also been improved to allow proper pause / resume functionality and now has a search box to help locate files you’ve downloaded in the past.

Some folks may like to hold back on installing a piece of software that’s been released just hours ago – but since it’s gone through six months of beta testing, I don’t reckon there all that much to go wrong, and will be instantly making the upgrade :)

Happy browsing!
